GENEVA- Howard E. Belcher, Jr. age 88, of Geneva passed away on Tuesday May 29, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

At Howard’s request there will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (June 2) with prayers at 10:30 a.m. at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Winnek post 396 or St. Stephen’s Church.

Howard was born on November 26, 1929 in Washington Indiana the son of the late Howard E. Sr. and Josephine James Belcher. He graduated from Washington High School in Washington, IN, Vincennes University and Indiana State College. Howard then entered the US Air Force in 1951 and became a General Instructor at Sampson Air Force Base. After discharge from the Air Force he received his Master’s degree in teaching from SUNY College at Geneseo and retired after 37 years teaching at the Waterloo Central School Dist.

He was a swim coach for several years at the Geneva Y.M.C.A, member of the American Legion Winnek post 396, Director of the legion pool for over 15 years, past Chaplin, Bar Jar committee for many years and was awarded the Legionnaire of the year award in 2001.

Howard is survived by his children, Bernard E. (Judith) Belcher of Rochester, Robert M. (Brenda) Belcher of Phelps and Suzanne (John Erik) Cheney of Bartlett, TN; grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, Sara, Nathan and Heather; longtime companion, Michela DiDuro and her children, Joseph, John and Matthew DiDuro; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice Belcher and his brother, James Belcher.
