He attended St. Francis parochial school and graduated from DeSales High School in 1945. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army. He attended basic training in Ft. Bliss, TX and served in Germany at the conclusion of World War II. Upon earning an honorable discharge as a Private First Class in 1947, he returned to Geneva and embarked on both civic activities (Jaycees and City Council) as well operating a small business, Iaconis TV &Appliance.
In 1962, he became one of the “early pioneer” insurance agents for State Farm Insurance for the Rochester district It was a position which he held in excess of 34 years (retiring at the end of 1996). He was successful in consistently expanding State Farm’s client base and was recognized for his efforts accordingly by the company. Joe had a focused affinity for this business as it enabled to him to interact with people on a day to day basis and provided them with products and services that he believed were vital to protecting families.

In addition to his insurance agency, he had a great deal of passion for his many years of affiliation with Seneca Lake Country Club. He served in a variety of committee and executive capacities over the years including that of president. In the late 70’s, he was among a handful of members that purchased the club. That ownership was held for over 25 years. He also was very active in the American Legion and VFW. Additionally, Joe was an active member of the local chapter of football officials. Over the course of nearly 20 years, he officiated hundreds of games at the high school and local college level.
In recent years, Joe greatly enjoyed spending winters residing in the Pompano Beach, Fl. area. There he remained active as a starter/ranger at the Palm Aire golf course. Additionally, he worked on and participated in many golf charity events in the Pompano/Ft. Lauderdale area.

Joe is survived by his 3 children, Joey of Geneva, Linda (Jim) Fox of Summerfield, FL and Greg (Christine) of Seabrook Island, SC. as well as his 4 grandchildren Jim (Natalie) Fox, Katie Fox, Matthew and Adrianna Iaconis; many loving nieces and nephews.
